Reiki and Craniosacral Therapy

What they are and how they can help bring life balance and integration of current treatment strategies.

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation promoting healing. It is administered by “laying on hands” or in the “field of energy” around the person. Reiki first began in the early 1900’s as a therapy to help the conditions of Japan after World War II. It was discovered as “life force energy” flowing through us and is what causes us to be alive.

Reiki and Craniosacral Therapy

Over the years, Reiki made its way to the West and has since been studied by scientific researchers. It is proven to reduce stress and trauma coming from mental, emotional, and physical malalignments of the systems of the body. It is complementary therapy that helps with a variety of needs including, and not limited to, stress, low self-confidence, overwhelm, body awareness, and general self-regulation which are some of the symptoms Mobile Therapy Centers clients may be managing and desiring relief from. It can be received laying down or sitting, and has an overall deep relaxation effect almost immediately.

Similarly, Craniosacral Therapy, also known as CST, is a whole body treatment technique developed by John E. Upledger, DO, OMM who scientifically researched and developed the system used today by many therapists. It is a gentle hands-on treatment option that works with the body’s craniosacral system which includes the cerebral spinal fluid, brain, and spinal cord.  CST helps to relieve tension in the central nervous system promoting balance and integration to various systems of the body including the sympathetic and parasympathetic, endocrine, skeletal, and muscular systems. It is a complementary therapy that can help a variety of needs such as speech impairments, depression, anxiety, social awareness issues, emotional regulation issues, brain fatigue, muscle tone function, coordination and motor planning skills, just to name a few.

Both therapies can be integrated into almost any current plan of care, helping children and adults create a balanced and integrated lifestyle. These strategies will be implemented at Mobile Therapy Centers by a certified Craniosacral Therapist and Reiki Practitioner with a Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy.
