What is ABA Therapy and why should I check into it for my child?

Applied Behavioral Analysis Therapy has been verified through science, backed by experience and observation. It is individually tailored to meet your child’s needs and is a common therapy for Autistic children in the United States. Behavior Analysis attempts to understand, describe, and predict behaviors. The goal is to increase behaviors that are helpful and decrease behaviors that are dangerous or unhealthy.

What is ABA Therapy and why should I check into it for my child?

At Mobile Therapy Centers a Board-Certified Behavioral Analyst will assess your child and create a program to assist them in learning new social skills, refining existing skills, and replacing harmful or problem behaviors with new self-help skills.

Most of our sessions are based around play, sometimes just with a therapist and sometimes with other children in the same age group. For some of our kids this might be the only time they are getting peer interaction. Here they work on skills like sharing, or imitating others. Some play games together and some simply play side by side.

ABA Therapy

During a session at Mobile Therapy Centers the child and therapist might be playing with blocks on the floor, the child asks “block?” The therapist can now help the child expand their vocabulary and their ability to request with specificity:

We give words to the child so that they can in turn give words to other people.

During another session we might have a child whose vocabulary is severely limited, when he gets frustrated, he begins to pinch himself. While matching colors, the therapist sees that he is beginning to pinch. The therapist can simply block the pinching and remind the child to use his “all done card.” Thus, allowing the child to advocate for himself. When he is all done with this activity and would like to move on to something different, it removes the frustration and the reason to pinch.

MTC’s ABA Therapists seek to give both parent and child skills to be what they believe is the best they can be…to teach long lasting social skills and develop lifelong relationships.
