What Does an ABA Therapist Do?

What Does an ABA Therapist Do?

In 2018, the CDC determined that approximately 1 in 59 children is diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Increased awareness of ASD has helped de-stigmatize the disorder which has allowed for new developments in the ever changing world of therapy and early intervention programs. Among the more commonly known forms of therapy, Speech and Occupational Therapy, another key component used to help children with ASD is ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) Therapy. ABA Therapy studies how human behaviors are learned and how those behaviors can change over time.

As ABA Therapists at Mobile Therapy Centers, we often get asked, “So how do you help kids with Autism?” The truth is, each child is different, so there is no single solution or behavior plan that can be implemented for children with ASD. ABA Therapy has proven to be a successful form of therapy because of its individualized approach, analyzing the behavior of each individual child based around the way the child thinks instead of how they are “supposed” to think. As ABA Therapists, we evaluate a child’s behavior and create individualized treatment plans to help improve the communication and behavior skills necessary for individual success, personally and professionally.

This quote encompasses all that ABA is because our field is a revolving door of solutions. If one approach does not work, we find a new way.

We never give up or say that the child cannot do it. Instead, we take a step back and re-evaluate in order to find another approach. ABA does call for patience and creativity, as this process may repeat itself numerous times before finding a successful approach, but the end result is worth it.

Mobile Therapy Centers offers ABA Therapy Anytime, Anywhere. We see children at our clinic, at your home or at your child’s school/daycare making it convenient for you and your family.
